Direct to Film Transfer Pressing Instructions

Direct-to-Film (DTF) Transfer Pressing Instructions

A heat press is required. Household irons are not recommended.

Please note that every heat press performs differently. Actual temperature, pressure, and heat distribution can vary between machines. These instructions are recommended starting points, and we strongly recommend testing your press before completing a full production run.

Pressing Instructions

1. Pre-Press the Garment
Pre-press the garment for approximately 3–5 seconds to remove excess moisture and wrinkles and to create a smooth pressing surface.

2. Position the Transfer
Place the DTF transfer in the desired position with the printed design facing the garment.

3. Press the Transfer

  • Temperature: 300°F
  • Time: 10–15 seconds
  • Pressure: Medium to firm

4. Peel the Film
Our transfers use Instant Peel film. Carefully peel away the clear carrier film immediately after pressing.

5. Final Press
Cover the design with parchment paper or an appropriate finishing sheet and press again for 5–10 seconds. This final press helps properly cure the transfer into the fabric and improves the finished appearance and durability.

After Pressing

For best results, allow the finished garment to rest for 24 hours before washing, stretching, or wearing.

Troubleshooting

If any part of the transfer begins lifting while removing the carrier film, stop peeling and place the transfer back under the heat press for an additional 2–5 seconds.

If adhesion problems continue, your heat press may require adjustment. Try one adjustment at a time:

  • Increase the temperature by approximately 10°F
  • Increase pressing time by 2–3 seconds
  • Increase pressure slightly
  • Verify that your heat press is reaching the temperature displayed
  • Check for uneven heating or pressure across the platen

DTF transfers are generally forgiving, but proper heat, time, and pressure are essential for good adhesion and durability.

Important Disclaimer

These pressing instructions are provided as recommended guidelines. Heat presses vary by manufacturer, model, calibration, platen condition, and pressure settings. Fabric type and garment construction may also affect pressing results.

Always perform a test press before beginning a full order or production run.
